• I’ve got to upgrade a migrated WordPress site (-one of my organisation’s live sites that we’ve copied/migrated into our corporate Azure environment) so that it uses one of the many available MySQL database options, and not the ‘In App’ option. Can I ask whether anybody has broad recommendations based on their experiences of using such databases ? Our site is currently a relatively low-usage portal, using blog entries for some page content but not run in such a way as to elicit mass public feedback. We do not expect it to expand much, and would like to avoid having to use an Azure VM for the purposes of hosting any standalone MySQL db. The current LocalDB size is approx. 4MB, and we expect that scaling itself isn’t an issue: availability and connection are much more important. I believe that the options are broadly:

    -MySQL (Bitnami)
    -MySQL with replication (Bitnami)
    -Azure database for MySQL (preview)
    -MySQL database (ClearDB)

    and, at a push:

    -Web app with MySQL

Given our expected usage, would anybody have positive experience of any of the above options ? We were leaning towards the ‘ClearDB’ offering, but have observed that a number of developers, on various blogsites and forum sites, have noted performance issues with that option.

And has anybody actually persevered with the ‘In App’ option for their production website without issues ?

Thanks in advance for your input.

UPDATE: apologies lest anybody finding this in ‘Plugins’: I didn’t appreciate that I was in the dedicated ‘Plugins’ forum. This is a general support query.
