    Hello!
I really like your plugin! It is great to see a privacy first solution for website statistics.
To be able to implement the plugin into my privacy policy the right way, I wanted to ask how the visitors are tracked and which data is stored.

I have found the “No personal information or anything visitor specific is tracked.” on the plugin description, which is great, but could you describe a little more detailed how Koko is tracking page-views, visitors & returning visitors via the Cookie, and how long the Cookie is active, and what is saved in the database?

    Thanks!

    Hi Sebastian,

    Good questions!

At this time the cookie will store the IDs of the pages that the visitor has visited. That way it can see the difference between a new visit and a second or third page-view. That is all the data that is set in the cookie, so nothing to identify the user with.

The cookie will expire after only 6 hours.

And of course you can deactivate the cookie altogether if you don’t mind so much about the difference between unique visits and views on a page.

In the database it basically just keeps the data you see on the control panel, nothing extra hidden there. Basically just Date, Visitors, Page views and referrer urls.

Hope that helps. If you have any questions, please let me know!

    @sebastian:

With the information provided, could you generate some information for the “privacy policy” of the page? If so: Are you willing to share?

Currently my understanding is: Even if the plugin is DSGVO-conform, it still must be mentioned in the privacy policy. With that, it would be great to have the necessary text (without warranty) for the privacy policy implementation.

I can’t give you any legal advice and I’m not qualified to write any legal texts.

Koko doesn’t record any identifiable data of your visitors.

The cookie that we set will contain the ID numbers of the pages that person visited. So there is no tracking id assigned to a user and stored in a cookie or anything like that. When someone visits a page Koko looks for that page number in the cookie and if it’s there it sends in a “view” instead of a “visit”.

The server sided data is just the number of visits and views by page, by time-frame without any further data collected.

The data is kept only on your own hosting server and not shared to anything or anyone else by Koko.

Hope that helps. If you have any questions, please let me know!
