Trying to upgrade from 2.6, I don’t think I have the right ‘WordPress database name’ – I’m using one given to me by the MySql panel on my Hosting control panel. Should I be looking elsewhere for the real one?

  • Don’t know WHY you would need your WordPress database name to do an upgrade.

    Please review Upgrading WordPress.

Then name of your database, if you have a running blog, should be in your wp-config.php.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! That’s fixed it! Didin’t know I had to use the original database name. Thank you again!

Again, don’t understand what procedure you are following that would require that information. An upgrade, done properly, will not need that info.

MichaelH – I am currently preparing to upgrade from 2.0.3 to 2.8.4
I have 2 archive databases which I backed up to desktop.
Looking at the current config file – I seem to be using an archive database as the current database.
So I uploaded it to a new wordpress2.8.4 installation and it only showed posts from archive date.
How do I learn the current database name used by my blog?

I note your comment about an upgrade done properly will not need this information, but I am all for belt and braces.

How do I learn the current database name used by my blog?

Talk to your host or check your hosting control panel or look in phpMyAdmin.

Thanks MichaelH – I’ll try those places.
