What is included in "Stats" on Plugin pages?

  • I’ve spoken with numerous developers and researched any details regarding what is actually included in the number of downloads reported on the “Stats” tab of any Plugin within the Plugins directory but I cannot find an answer.

    Can anyone explain?

    I’m guessing it includes new downloads and updates through the WordPress updater?
