I’m building a template theme to speed up my design process, and I want to try and make it of a high enough quality to release it publicly.

I’m starting from Elliott Jay Stocks’ Starkers theme which includes a file called image.php. I can’t find any documentation on it and I can’t figure out what it does or when it’s ever called.

  • I don’t suppose it has anything to do with image attachments or image galleries?

I know some custom themes come with a custom page to deal with posts with image attachments and image galleries and the like; perhaps this is one such theme?

Try Googling image.php and WordPress and see if you get more concrete results.

The image.php file is used when you link an image to the post-file in the image uploader.

If you click that image in the post, it will bring you to another post-like page that is about the image. A common use of the image.php file will post the caption and description on this page.

image.php on my server was a hack from peru.. it allowed making directories and even creating mysql databases and editing the htaccess file. My server was suspended until I could find and clean out all the files
