What is Available Tools for?

  • I really do not understand what the Available Tools is for. Currently there is only a link to the Categories and Tag Converter. No other installed or active tool is listed. None of the tools added by plugins or theme are listed too. It looks like a useless screen.

    It has the look of either a placeholder, a hold-over from earlier versions, or stuff that they didn’t know where else to put.

    I also been very curious why would WordPress have an empty section.

    There used to be more stuff there. Things have been slowly removed from it over time, or integrated into the core. That tags and categories convertor is the last remaining holdout, but since that hasn’t been needed for a while (tags were added to WordPress 2.3, in 2007), then it’s likely due to go away in the next version or so.
