• I just determined that none of the comments that people have been leaving on my blog since I started it are getting through. I don’t know how to fix this. Can anyone help me?

When someone comments, they get an error code — and I get nothing!!!

Thank you so much for coming to my rescue.

  • Hello, Kathi.

Perhaps if you posted the exact error message you are receiving, it may ring a bell with someone and they may be able to offer some advice.

    Thanks, Clayton,

Here’s the error message I get:

Warning: require_once(../../../wp-config.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/.tugs/kathipeters/networkmarketingcommunication/site/blog/wp-content/themes/mambopress-16/mambopress-16/comments-ajax.php on line 2

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘../../../wp-config.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/.tugs/kathipeters/networkmarketingcommunication/site/blog/wp-content/themes/mambopress-16/mambopress-16/comments-ajax.php on line 2

Before diving into the require_once error, I think I see a strange thing in your file path.

    /themes/mambopress-16/mambopress-16/comments-ajax.php

    The path would normally be

    /themes/mambopress-16/comments-ajax.php

Do you have an extra folder (nested folder) in the path to your theme?

I’m fairly new at this, but when I go to my ftp client through Filezilla, and click on the folder that says themes, it goes down one level to my theme, Mambopress, and when I click on that, I get another folder one level down that says Mambopress again with a question mark.

Your theme should be in its own folder. You apparently have an extra folder, most likely the result of unzipping the original and uploading the entire contents, rather than just the theme folder and contents.

You should see this: /wp-content/themes/mambopress/(mambopress theme files)

Here is a link that might clarify the process.

How to Upload a WordPress Theme

A search on “Nested folders” will also yield some helpful information.
I am curious as to why your style sheet still loads, in spite of this. I would begin by addressing that issue, and go from there. One more thing, do you have more than one WP installation on that domain, because your site source indicates that you are running WordPress version 2.5 and not 2.0.11?

Oh, my, I think I really blew it this time. I deleted the Mambopress theme and reloaded it without the nested folder and now when I go to my blog, it’s not there at all. Nothing but a blank screen.
I’m not sure as to whether or not I have more than one WP installation. How would I know that? Ever since I started blogging, my site says that I don’t have the latest version, but so far I haven’t been able to upgrade. I tried to upgrade yesterday, but it asks me if I want to do it through ftp or html and then explains each. I thought I was going in the right direction with ftp but then it asks me a bunch of questions I don’t know how to answer.
What can I do to be able to get back what I just lost — my entire site?
By the way, thank you so much for helping me.

I can see your site right now. Clear your browser cache and try again.

If you need to, go here to log in.

reset to your default theme, then change back to the mambopress theme that you properly uploaded and view the results. You may also need to refresh your permalink structure.

How do I know which version I’m running? It says at the top of my screen version 2.5.1 is available. Upgrade now.

    (@kathipeters)

You can see it because I went back into the ftp client and undid what I had just done, got rid of the nested folder.

You are using 2.5 (I see it in your blog source code in the head meta section). You need to upgrade to 2.5.1.

How do I reset to the default theme?

    Thread Starter kathipeters

    (@kathipeters)

Here’s where I am now. I think I got rid of the nested folder. I then went into my blog and clicked on a post, put “test” in the comments section, then sent it, and did funny things to my site. It moved the center column off to the left. Is this because I’m commenting on my own site?
Also, when I posted a comment, I didn’t get an error code this time.

I can’t seem to upgrade. It tells me I have the wrong path.

How do I reset to the default theme?

You need to familiarize yourself with the basics.

Dashboard > design >themes. Apply one of the other themes you have there

Here is what is currently in your theme folder:

    classic/ 07-Jun-2007 16:33 –
    default/ 18-Sep-2007 15:50 –
    mambopress-16.zip 24-Apr-2008 09:50 95K
    mambopress-16/ 29-Jun-2008 09:20 –
    tarski/

Temporarily apply the default theme. Your blog should then appear with the default “Kubric” theme. Then re-apply the mambopress-16 theme and view the result. You should also remove the mambopress.zip folder I see in the directory as well. You also may need to repair/refresh/reset your permalink structure.

You will need to learn about Permalinks and .htaccess

    Upgrade guide
I recommend you learn to do this manually.

It moved the center column off to the left. Is this because I’m commenting on my own site?

It may be a by-product of not updating permalinks after changing the path to the themes stlye sheet.

…and lastly, but most importantly, -and I can not stress this enough, regularly make and store locally, a backup copy of your website and your database.
You must be able to recover in the event of catastrophic failure or simple screw up. There is no recovery of files possible if you don’t make a backup before altering your site.

    Best wishes.

    Cj
