What If I convert images to webp and delete the orig jpgs…

  • So I am looking to convert old images from older posts to webp. All new posts auto convert to webp and do not store jpegs beyond the original file. I’d like to do the same with the older posts.

    If I use this plugin to convert to the old images to webp and do a search for all the thumbnails/size options of each older jpeg via FTP and delete them all, will all my original stories be fine?

    The reason I ask is I want to convert to webp but I don’t want to just duplicate all of the files that are already there, doubling my storage needs and inode count (mostly because I am already at the border of my host giving me trouble over inode counts as I have like 260,000+ inodes per them).
