If I need to update (change) SKU or GTIN on the Square dashboard, will it break auto stock sync? In other words, does WooCommerce and Square use SKU as unique identifiers per product to maintain the stock or do they use some other internal number and I can change SKU on one end (Square) which will get autoupdated on the other end (WooCommerce) assuming that my sync setting is set to Square as the main source?

  • Hey there, @naarian! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

The plugin uses the product SKU to sync and update the products, so if you change the SKU on Square it will cause issues with the product synchronization.

You can find more about this in this guide.

I hope this was clarifying. Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have any questions.

    Have a wonderful day!

Thank you for your fast reply! So if I change SKU on both Square and WooCommerce, synchronization will keep working and will only pause during the update when SKUs mismatch?

    Hi @naarian

Yes, you’re correct. If you update the SKU on both Square and WooCommerce, the synchronization should continue to work correctly. However, when the SKUs temporarily mismatch during the update process, the synchronization might be disrupted.

To ensure a smooth transition, it would be best to update the SKU in Square first, and then immediately update the SKU in WooCommerce. This way, the synchronization will only pause briefly and then continue once the SKUs match again.

I hope this clarifies your concern. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
