What Hooks Should Be In Your Templates

I am creating a new template from scratch, just to learn it and I have found out a few things along the way. Once thing I realized is that plugins do not work unless you put the correct hooks in your template (IE wp_head() ) I was wondering what hooks (or anything else) that should be placed in all templates. Thanks for your help on this basic questions I should already know!
