What happens to child theme when updating themes

I’m using a Tesseract “child” theme. What happens to my child theme when I update the parent Tesseract 2015 to Tesseract 2016 version? Per Tesseract 2016 instructions, I deleted Tesseract 2015 but got a message that said it didn’t exist. So I downloaded Tesseract 2016 though Tesseract 2015 still appears in theme folder. Now my theme folder shows Tesseract 2015 (1.0), Tesseract 2016 (2.5.5), and Tesseract Child themes. Tesseract Child is active, though I don’t know if it’s parent is still Tesseract 2015 or if it’s now 2016. And… Tesseract 2016 uses Beaver Builder, which I downloaded, instead of SiteOrigin Page Builder that was used in Tesseract’s 2015 version. So will the Child theme convert everything the same way in Beaver Builder or will I lose all my settings, and style CSS changes in the Child theme?
