• Here’s my story with Yoast (Free Version): I was in love with this plugin up until version 2.3.5. I updated to 3.0.4 about a month ago, and it immediately caused several problems with my posts. Thankfully, I was able to roll back to version 2.3.5 and I can presently post without issue.

    Question: What does the future hold for this plugin? I check this forum once a week, and I continue to see users reporting problems. And I don’t see ANY tech support/developers responding in the forum with any reassuring solutions/suggestions/game plan. Leadership and vision within the company seem to be severely lacking. It seems as if the developers/tech support have decided that silence is the way to go in regard to forum posts that relate to the current problematic status of the program.

    Have any of the developers suggested to the users that they’re working to get this plugin back to its reliable & effective status? I’ve not seen any indication of this. I realize that there have been several recent updates that have supposedly address the problems that people are having. But these updates don’t seem to be helping as the majority of forum posts that I read indicate that there’s still lots of unhappy users.

    Has this plugin seen its better days? Is it time to move on to an alternative? I can accept this if that’s the case. But I need to know! And I need to know now! Hey Yoast Developers: Let us know where this plugin stands! Spell out a clear vision on what the company plans to do with future releases/updates/versions so we can all either stick with the plugin or find an alternative.

    BTW – What are some alternatives to Yoast. Anyone know of any? I’d love to check ’em out!

    Thanks!

    -Mike

    Most of the bugs that you have in free version are also in premium version. For the moment actual version 3.x.x is buggy and unstable.
    Actually you can:
    — roll back to stable and fully functional YOAST SEO version 2.3.5(still works perfect with wordpress version 4.4.1 and last plugins versions) that you can find here in developer section
    — Migrate to an alternative SEO plugin
    — Wait after a restrictive fork of version 2.3.5 in development on Github: ymbeseo
    — Wait a YOAST SEO stable version 3.x.x with annoying messages and ads…

    Regards

    @lomars, thanks for the info.
    How do i roll back to a previous version (2.3.5)?
    Do i download the file as you mentioned and just replace the contents of the folder on the server?

    Thank you.

    @lomars
    I see, thanks for the advice. Now I’m still using 2.3.5, haven’t update it yet because I see too much bad rep on newest one.

    The restrictive fork version on Github, does it mean from now on will be 2 version of Yoast SEO? the original one and this restrictive version? Is it okay by the author? Isn’t it need author permission? It will be waste of effort if it scrapped later because it needs author permission and yoast won’t give it.

    @quintinm
    Yes, you can just download it, delete the 3.x.x, and upload 2.3.5.

    @quintinm

    Yes, muchmuch11 is right:
    — First thing, download version 2.3.5 to your computer.
    — Delete version 3.X.X (by FTP if possible).
    — Upload and activate version 2.3.5 ( Plugins > Add New > “Upload Plugin” button )

    @muchmuch11

    All wordpress plugins have a GPL v2 or v3 licence. So on Github you can make an independent fork, but you have to rename it.

    YMBESEO is a fork of YOAST SEO version 2.3.5. The team is actually renaming everything that contains YOAST and they are cleaning all the code of annoying things.

    When i say “restrictive” that means for me that the team is removing also some functionalities like XML Sitemaps and some other functionalities. They do that because they want to actively maintain this fork in future and in that way it’s easier for them.

    Have a look to this: So no need of author permission.

    Regards

    Whelp, they remove almost everything. Maybe leaving only meta tags and social media tags.

    Hi all, thanks for this thread.

    I’m also planning to leave Yoast. Can anyone please explain in details how I change from Yoast SEO (I moved back to 2.3.5) to The SEO Framework with the SEO Data Transporter? I also use Google Webmaster Tools.

    I do have quite a big and important site, so I don’t want anything to go wrong.

    Many thanks in advance!

    @gedu

    SEO Data Transporter plugin instructions when migrate from Yoast SEO plugin to The SEO Framework:
    Make a database backup (always).
    — Deactivate Yoast SEO plugin.
    — Install (but don’t activate yet) The SEO Framework plugin.
    — Install and activate SEO Data Transporter plugin.
    — In “Tools” admin section select SEO data Transport.
    You have 2 drop down menus. You have to:
    — Select WordPress SEO in the first one
    — Select Genesis in the second one.
    — Press on Analyze button.
    — Once analyze process is done, press on Convert button.
    — You can activate The SEO Framework plugin and deactivate SEO Data Transporter plugin.
    THATS ALL…

    If you have any kind of problem with The SEO Framework, ask author on support thread, he is very reactive and helpful.
    If you change your mind, you can even revert process in interchanging items in drop down menu of SEO Data Transporter plugin…

    Regard

    @muchmuch11
    What happen to you, could you be more explicit please?

    Regards

    Add me to the list of people that have more than one bug totally screwing up my site (see here and here).

    Also not a fan of this onpage.org they are connecting with now.

    What if I don’t care about all the bells and whistles and just need a good solid reliable option to manage my titles and metadescriptions and ensure they are auto generated from the first few chars of the page or post if not manually specified? That’s all I really need our care about. I don’t need all this focus keyword BS. I know what to write and how I want to write it. My sites are very successful SEO wise but not when yoast screws up and completely stops generating the meta descriptions for no apparent reason, or when it has me tearing my hair out with an error like this “Your homepage cannot be indexed by search engines. This is very bad for SEO and should be fixed.” that according to every other source isn’t even true!

    Really pissed, this guy does not deserve to have any paying customers, sites are getting trashed because of this.

    @ivailo82

    As you see you have 2 alternatives:
    — rolling back to stable version 2.3.5 of Yoast SEO, waiting for a stable update.
    — Migrating to another SEO plugin easily with SEO Data Transporter.

    Regards

    Which plugins do you recommend?

    @lomars
    I mean for YMBESEO, they removes a lot of features, really back to basic. Well, for sitemap we can subtitute it with Google Sitemap Generator Plugin. Page analysis, I use that to double check if the article is OK, but I can past that if they remove it. What about they removing Titles & Metas section? I thought that’s important for SEO, it isn’t matter of user interface. What do you think?

    And also I have question for deprecated code, for these kind of codes, can you just replace it with the new ones?

    @muchmuch11

    Sorry, but it seams that YMBESEO doesn’t exist anymore… You have to chose another way…
    Regards

    @ivailo82

    In this thread there is 2 recommendations, for instance:
    All in One SEO Pack (The historical challenger of Yoast SEO).
    The SEO Framework (The youngest but very efficient (and visual like) challenger).

    My personal recommendation is The SEO Framework because it:
    — is lightweight and very efficient in all SEO aspects.
    — is complete (No need of additional plugins).
    — has a very nice interface.
    — is visual like Yoast SEO, but in a different interesting way.
    — has a real free, strong and quick support (author really respect people).
    — Its open (API) and promises much more in future, keeping in mind “efficiency”.

    Regards

    I see.. Too bad it’s canceled. Maybe it’s for the best.

    Was a big fan but ever since the latest update my site’s performance took a dive. Yes, I am sure it’s Yoast: disabling just Yoast saves me 1 second on average in page load time. I am out. Thanks for al the suggestions!
