What happened to my Categories??

  • All my post Categories are gone? All the posts have been recategorized as “Uncategorized”, the menu list of Categories is gone, when I check the Categories section in the Admin control panel it shows none of the categories listed at ALL, and yet says there’s 25 categories (screenshot here )

    I did a quick search and didn’t see any other topics on this, but if someone’s already got a solution just point me there please!

  • Can you disable all plugins and see if the issue persists?

    If it does, I am afraid you might have accidentally deleted all categories or the installation could have been corrupted.

    You can try reinstalling WP through the updates page in dashboard or try restoring from a backup if you have any.

    Are you on a shared server or virtual server.

    This used to happen to me often on a low-powered vps when I had spikes in traffic. I used to get everything back to normal by doing a server restart.

    solved the issue completely by moving up a couple of grades of vps to a set up more suitable for my traffic levels.

    Disabling all plugins did not help. I’ll add that nothing has been updated or changed since yesterday when they were working fine.

    I have no idea on the server, I’ll have to check with the company who hosts and see if they can re-start it for me, but I haven’t had any spikes in traffic (and it held up fine to a HUGE traffic spike last year).

    I have a backup but its several months old dang it *sigh* I guess thats what I get for not keeping up with that!

    Re-installing the last wordpress update (via the reinstall option on the admin-updates page) solved it!

    I’m off to go download a backup now….
