What exactly should be added to SPF record in DNS settings?

    After setting up the plugin, I see this red error at the bottom of the page:

    “No SPF record found for MY_DOMAIN.COM, the following SPF record is recommendedv=spf1 +a +mx ip4:MY_IP_ADDRESS ~all”

    I suppose this is saying that I need to go to my DNS settings for my website, and add an SPF record but I’ve tried to add what is being suggested and it does not seem to be formatted properly b/c the plugin is still saying there is no record found, even though I’ve added what was suggested at the bottom of the page.

    Could you please help outline the exact code snippet that I should put in my SPF record?

    Hi Jordon,

    sorry that I only just noticed this support request, being the first, I don’t think I had notifications turned on.

    I hope by now you are sorted but:

    You should add a TXT record with

    v=spf1 +a +mx ip4:MY_IP_ADDRESS ~all

    substituting your IP ADDRESS of course

    DNS record can take hours, sometime up to 48 to fully propagate.

    After a reasonable time you can test your SPF record with an online tool like MXTOOLBOX

    I am also getting “Cannot get DNS records – refresh this page – if you still get this message after a few refreshes you may want to check your domain DNS control panel”

    Do i use the server IP or my computer IP?

    The simple answer is it should be your Server IP

    The message “Cannot get DNS records – refresh this page’ literally means that the program can not read your DNS record for your domain, as in the call is returning an error.

    There could be several reasons for this, one is that your domain has not been set up at all ( e.g. you are running on a localhost) or there is a problem with your DNS server, or your host has some restrictions or firewalls that stops the plugin reading your DNS.

    In these situations, I would advise using a third party service like ‘MX Toolbox’ to check your SPF records.
