What exactly happens on a EOT DELETE?
-
Howdy, Just purchased s2member pro today and am trying to plan how the right way to set it up for my purposes and I’m curious about what exactly happens if I set the EOT Behavior to delete.
Currently, I’m planning on running a WP site with Buddy Press. Open registration is turned off. My plan is to have just one membership level (level 1).
A paid member will have an account and will therefore be able to post status messages in BuddyPress, forum messages etc. Anonymous users (i.e. people without an account) can read anything in the BuddyPress areas of the site. But because they do not have an account they will not be able to post anything. So I’m actually not planning on implementing any membership restrictions at this point.
Here’s my problem, as I understand the documentation, if I set the EOT behavior to “demote” the user will be demoted to “subscriber” level. aka level 0. But they will still be able to login with their subscriber level account and will therefore still be able to post to the buddypress stream and group forums, etc. as far as I can tell.
So my plan was to set the EOT behavior to “delete.” That way the user will no longer be able to login and will have the defualt, anonymous access just as they were before they paid for membership.
In my mind that sounds like a reasonable strategy. But it raises some questions.
— When a user account is deleted, what happens to all the content that the user created under their account? Does it also get deleted? Do all their posts to the forums get deleted? Do all their status messages go away, etc? What about the profile information for the user?
— When the user’s account gets deleted at EOT, what happens to the ID? Is it available for reuse? For example, suppose John Smith buys a membership, creates the ID JSmith and uses it for a few months. He fills out his profile, writes a bunch of bbpress forum posts etc. Then he accidentally lets his membership lapse. So his account gets deleted. If he comes back and pays again, can he get JSmith again? Or will he have to get another ID?
— Similar to above, Suppose John Smith buys a membership, uses it for a few months, then lets his membership expre. Suppose now that Jason Smith comes along and pays for a membership. Can he now get the JSmith ID? And if so, will he be associated with all of John Smith’s posts and status messages?
Any light anyone could shed on these scenarios would be helpful.
Thanks
Calvin
