What ever i do in Htaccess file to increase the webspeed but nothing happens

What ever changes i do in htaccess file to increase the webspeed like
Add expires header
Gzip component
Reduce Dns Lookups
But nothing happens.. Speed remains same. Score remain same in GTmatrix.
