• In my fpt client i added a folder to my wp-content folder called ‘mu-plugins’ then i refreshed my site and there was a new tab called Must Use
I know that it runs files that are in that folder non stop, but what is the purpose of this and how could you install a file to this folder during the installation of a plugin that needs a must use file?
    Thanks,
    William

  • Hi dpskipper,

It currently isn’t possible to install a must-use plugin via the installer — you have to upload it manually. As for the purpose, lots of people prefer to designate plugins as must-use so they can’t be deactivated. This is especially necessary in circumstances where, for instance, a theme might rely on functionality provided by a plugin such as for registering content types or similar. Accidentally deactivating a plugin like that could have dire consequences on how the site operates.

What code do you put in the PHP files thats in mu-plugins? What code do I use in that file to tell WP what plugin is Must Use?

Any valid WordPress plugin folder or file would go in the mu-plugins directory. And the way WordPress knows a plugin is must-use, is that it’s in the mu-plugins directory.

So in stead of putting a plugin in the plugins folder you put it in mu-plugins?
