• I’m thinking about switching to WordPress from Blogger.com. I have it installed, and looking at php code for the first time in my life.
What can I modify that will still allow me to upgrade easily? If I change the index.php file, will it be overwritten in the next upgrade? Are there certain files I can edit (besides the .css file) and certain files I should leave alone?

  • modify index.php! just dont replace it next time when u upgrade… template has been stable for quiet sometime with some minor function updates.

You can modify the template_functions file too forget its name but you can tell the system to use some other interesting functions. You can also modify how it outputs data such as the outlines in the navigation. The CSS file is also something that you would want to modify to fit your needs. Keep in mind you should have a lot of experience before diving into the templates file!

So when 1.25 or 1.3 comes out, whatever changes I make to index.php and the templates file, I have to make all over again?

Oh, you won’t have to make them all over again. You might have migrate the new index.php code to your index.php file.
Probably not though, if changes are made they usually extend functionality. The developers are doing a great job of maintaining backwards compatibility.
With 1.3 though, many plugins will need to be updated.

damn damn damn i am still on 1.1 ??

Sushubh, upgrade then! What’s the holdup? ??
