What are my FTP credentials on a local install?

  • I have installed WordPress on my local computer running Ubuntu 11.10.

    I can go to 127.0.0.1/wordpress and see my site. I can also add posts, pages, etc.

    The problem comes when I am trynig to install a new theme. It asks for FTP credentials.

    I have tried hostname – localhost, ftp username – admin, ftp password – mypassword but no luck.

    How do I get this resolved? I am a newbie and would be grateful if your comments are easy to follow.
