I like the plugin idea, it’s just awesome to have the possibility of choosing an alternative dark version of our WordPress to prevent eye fatigue and to make work during night more confortable.

    Now, I have two doubts.

First: Will be this plugin compatible with Gutenberg? I.e. to have a dark themed Gutenberg version. This would be so nice, because if is not added, the plugin would loose it’s main purpose (I think)

Second doubt, but it’s like the first one… Why the Visual tab on the Classic Editor is not darken? This breaks the esthetic and makes the plugin a bit dysfunctional. For example, If I want to use this plugin for writing during night, this white window will contrast with the dark theme and would make the writting less confortable.

What do you think about that? Are they future plans to change?

    Thanks a lot,

    Pablo

  • Hi there, thanks for sharing your thoughts and I’m glad you like the idea of Dark Mode. I’ll try and answer your questions as best I can!

    1. Yes. It will be compatible at some point. Right now it’s not and if it detects Gutenberg is being used on the current page the styling is disabled (this is just so you don’t get a half dark, half bright UI messy UI). I’ll need to communicate with the Gutenberg team to arrange how to properly support it.

    2. This is something I considered however because themes can control this space via ‘editor styles’, it’s been left for now. This should become at least somewhat less of an issue once Gutenberg is merged into Core and that is styled. Due to how the editor is loaded in, it’s not as straightforward to make TinyMCE fully ‘darker’ although it’s possible with some more work.

I’ll mark this as resolved now, but if you still have a question then just reply and I’ll see if I can answer. Thanks!

I’m glad to know that you are working in the dark version of Gutenberg editor^^ Even so, I think to darken the classic editor is important too, because not all people will use Gutenberg for now.

If you need help, I could help you with the styles stuff.

Dark editor style support for gutenberg has been merged! ??
