• I’m building a website with a document management sytem and parametric search and suddently my client told me that we will go from few thousands documents to a website that will manage more then 500 000 documents with cross post-type parametric search…

Is that too much for WordPress ? How much can WordPpress handles and stay stable? Is there a size limit for the DB where I should switch to some kind of other cms ?

Of course with that kind of project we will definately go with either a dedicated server or some kind of dedicated cloud…. so my question is mostly related to the limit of WP.

    Thanks,

That is pretty much 100% dependant on the hardware resources you have available and the sort of traffic/activity that the site sees. WordPress itself will handle pretty much anything you can throw at it as long as the hardware is up to the task.

As an example… WordPress.COM runs on what is essentially a single Network (multi-site) installation, and that’s bigger than anything that you’ll need to put together. It does use a big faviety of hardware wywtems from multiple front-end servers to load balancers and a lot more things inbetween.
