WF and changing username (user ID)

  • Hello,

    I need to change my site accounts’s usernames at least for a few but when I try to do that with “Username Changer” plugin, it works within WP but WF immediatlely locks the account at login try as non-existing user (what is not true).

    I also want to let connected users changing their username if they want to.

    How can I change usernames without trouble caused by WF ?
    I didn’t find any setting related to that (except immediately locking non-existing users).

    The reason I want to do that is the site’s accounts were previously created using a mail address as username what is a very bad idea for privacy.
    Such username is also giving trouble for certain bbPress functions like dedicated moderator (reported to bbPress).

    Are you seeing any blocks when you change the username in the Wordfence > Tools > Live Traffic page? Possibly a 403 or 503 response code?

    If you could screenshot one of these blocks for me and remove any personal data like IP addresses for me to review, that might help us resolve this.

    Hello,

    yes, there is a 503 error for test I did yesterday evening and a second when I try again to login this morning (but then I used the WF recovery link that set back my original username (I wonder from where WF found it back) !

    Can you send that screenshot to wftest @ wordfence . com

    Also a Diagnostic might help me see what’s happening too. Can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

    NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email

    Hello,

    are you working on a solution to that problem ?
    It is a must I can do that change and your product prevent me from doing it but I don’t really want to be forced to change WordFence by something else…

    sory to chase again but is there any chance I can rename a WP username without getting blocked by WF ?
    Is there any configuration setting change that could allow such a change ?
