Welcome Page Error

Hi,

Created a ‘Welcome’ page for mydomain.com (permalink shows mydomain.com). Went to Dashboard/Settings/Reading and made ‘Welcome’ the static ‘Front Page:’ w ‘Articles’ as the ‘Posts Page:’ However, when I try to view the ‘Welcome’ page, instead of going to mydomain.com, the site comes back w mydomain.com/page01 w a ‘Error 404 – Not Found’ msg.
Note: Had previously created a page01 in error; should have been an article. Subsequently, went back and deleted page01.
Went through all WP settings, but could find no redirects. Tried clearing recent history, but that had no effect. Any ideas as to what to do next?
