Welcome email not arrivingwhen auto approve selected

Bit of an odd situation. A couple of months ago everything was working well (August 2024) where I had setup the UM plugin and a registration page et al.
I then created new html emails to brand the solution and again everything was working well.
I have now got a really odd situation.
When a new user registers, the ‘User Role’ is set to auto approve and the ‘Account Welcome Email’ is set to ‘Enable this email notification’.
When the user registers, the website adminsitrator receives the ‘new user’ email, but the user, even though they then are redirected to the ‘logged in page’ and can see their entered details, never receives the welcome email.
Now this is where it gets odd. If the user for example changes their password, they receive the ‘changed password’ email, so the site is sending out emails not a problem. If the Administrator deletes their account, they receive the ‘your account has been deleted’ email.
If I go into the template and replace my welcome email template with either the original one or the deleted email template (as this works as it is sent when triggered), the user still does not receive the welcome email. The reason for the previous, is just to prove that it’s not something in the email template that is causing the issue.
I’ve checked as many things as I can think of, everything is turned on, I have green lights etc etc but for some reason, the solution will send every email, just not the welcome one.
Even weirder is that when I go to ‘User Roles’ select the role and change ‘Registration Status’ from Auto Approve to Require Email Activation, the user receives the email activation email !
I just cannot fathom why the welcome email is not being triggered.
Even cleared user cache, deleted users everything, but still have this very odd situation.
