• I have a sandbox site which is not public and only 3 or 4 people have ever seen it. I just finished a site for a client. These sites are both using 2.9.2 with Headway theme. Both have comments turned off (I’m creating a CMS site). Both sites are on different shared servers and different webhosts. Neither site has Akismet turned on (the public site server won’t run Akismet).

Both sites have gotten similar spam today:

A new trackback on the post #27 “Latest Class Listing” is waiting for your approval
    https://www.southsoundmassageeducation.com/classes/latest-class-listing/

    Website : Southsoundmassageeducation (IP: 89.248.168.40 , hosted-by.ecatel.net)
    URL : https://southsoundmassageeducation.blogger.com
    Trackback excerpt:
    Southsoundmassageeducation…

    […] something about southsoundmassageeducation[…]…

the sandbox site is a subdomain and the message is virtually the same. I also have the same WP and Headway installed on a blog which has comments and Akismet enabled, but haven’t had this trackback spam yet.

Question: is this anything to be worried about?
    Thanks

  • I don’t know but I got one too – also linking a blogger site that doesn’t seem to exist.

I have subsequently received a pile of comment spam on the same post. I was using the WordPress captcha but no login to comment.

Just looks like trackback spam to me, nothing particularly different about it. You can disabled trackbacks in the discussion admin.

Been seeing the same thing. I went out and regged the blogspot blogs, but I still get these strange trackbacks from 89.248.168.40.
