Weird styling issue

I’m having some issues with the sidebar widget. It displays differently on different pages. On single post pages the image is floated but not on blog archive pages. Is this deliberate?
On single post pages the ul element is also floated and so the widget background doesn’t extend all the way to the bottom of the widget.
