• I have a problem – I just launched a WP redesign of an old .asp CMS site and for some reason when you type the domain – it redirects some users to /index.asp. Since this .asp page is not on our new site the user sees a 404 page not found error.

    • No old website files were moved to this new sever.
    • No other pages are affected.
    • Not everyone sees this redirect to 404.

Its like some active users of the old site may have a cached rule set by the old web server or something which redirects them to mysite/index.asp.

Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? How did you address it?

  • Did you find the answer to this problem? I’m also migrating a site from an asp installation and I’ve redirected all the corresponding pages in the htaccess file but when I try to redirect index.asp to index.php the page won’t load because of too many redirects. If I don’t redirect index.asp it produces a 404 page.
