Weird problem – Hello World / 2014 Theme on Home Page in Error
-
This is very odd. I have a custom theme, with lots of great content. Unfortunately, what is displayed on the home page is:
Hello world! Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging! It seems to be displaying in the 2013 Theme.
The selected theme is clearly our custom theme. Home page content is something totally different.
When I delete the plugin, reset .htaccess to WordPress virgin, the problem disappears. Plugin back in, problem re-appears.
I gotta believe that page (which you can see on every new initial install of WordPress) got stored in cache/supercache on the server somewhere. When the content was moved from prototype to production the cache content went along for the ride.
After playing with this content (changing templates, retesting on different browsers, resetting browser cache multiple times…) for four or five hours, the problem seems to have disappeared. Not sure what was going on.
Info posted here in case others arrive at errant Hello World! Welcome to WordPress home page.
The other thing that is quite odd: In the directory tree I see
/(root) wp-content cache supercache mywebsiteurl.com 2014 09 16 hello-world img page404_pic1.png ja bootstrap.js
All of those entries are directory names, not file names. All of those directories are empty. I have no clue exactly what is going on, but it certainly doesn’t look right to me. Its gotta be a mistake somewhere. WP SuperCache plugin is version 1.4.2, which is the latest level.
Nothing in the error logs, permalinks was set to “Post Name”, no obvious errors. The whole thing is just odd. At any rate, info posted here in case others arrive at this issue.
