Hi there, we have a site which keeps getting the server blacklisted for spamming. We’ve installed Postman (to disable any PHPmail scripts and use SMTP), Wordfence, updated etc.

I can’t figure out where the site is infected, so I had a look through for files which looked odd, and had a look at stats which might suggest the most popular used files and this came up:

public_html/wp-content/plugins/postman-smtp/Postman/Postman-Wizard/registered-domain-libs-master/C/blog.php

Does this come standard with the install?

The file is foreign but please email it to me before you delete it so I can analyze it. Hopefully I will be able to tell you how it got there in the first place. I will also show you how to search your site for hidden code.

What is the modification date of the file blog.php? It’s my understanding that WordPress deletes the entire plugin folder on upgrade. Do you upgrade Postman often? I have a new version of the plugin available about every week, so if you’re keeping up with updates, then this file was created very recently.

May I have a copy of your Apache log file? I’m interested to know the IP address accessing the blog.php file, and what other files they have been accessing. This may point to another compromised file which created the blog.php file in the first place.

Are you running any themes or plugins NOT downloaded from www.remarpro.com? Malware is often introduced in a trojan theme, that is a theme that is normally only available by purchase, that has been copied and hacked and released for free but with malicious modifications.
