Weird handling of XML sitemap URL
-
Hello,
I’ve been testing this plugin for some time now and it appears to be a fine, lightweight alternative to Yoast SEO. It’s really nice and bloat free – congratulations on that and thanks for plugin developers for their hard work.
One issue that I’m having with my site with WPML is weird XML URL generation.
I get https://szmigiel.design/pl//sitemaps.xml which is then being rewritten to https://szmigiel.design/pl/sitemaps.xml.
Apparently sitemaps should be available here: https://szmigiel.design/sitemaps.xml
I believe that it may be connected to uncommon site configuration – I have WPML configured to have both languages (primary and secondary) configured to use subfolders and WordPress routing all traffic to index.php (WPML requires users to set base path when configuring default language in subfolders or subdomains). This essentially means that primary language is being loaded by default, and site’s home is located under /pl/ instead of / (WordPress does the redirection for homepage).
I’ve had similar problem with “Markup (JSON-LD) structured in schema.org” plugin that by using home_url always referred domain/pl/ as home which resulted in corrupt URLs in metadata like domain/pl/en/permalink or domain/pl/pl/permalink. It was solved with plugin’s author adding a switch in options so that users could decide if the plugin was supposed to use home_url or site_url to generate URLs.
After switching “Markup (JSON-LD) structured in schema.org” to use site_url instead of home_url, everything works as expected.
So far I haven’t noticed anything else being wrong with how SEOPress works in this configuration – I’m having only minor problems with sitemap URLs.
Any ideas how to approach this problem?
