Hi – Experienced this problem first time today. The Yoast SEO plugin will not accept my keyword phrase (it is listed in Google’s Keyword Planner). It appears that the plugin has focussed only on one word (sleep) in the 4-word keyword phrase and is rejecting the use of the entire phrase as a result. The word it is focussing on (sleep) is being used legitimately about 30 times throughout the blog post – I am not keyword stuffing, although your plugin seems to think I am. How can this be fixed so I can publish my post? Thanks!

Can you please let us know what the keyphrase you are using is? And are you receiving an error or warning when trying to enter it, or will the page not update after you have entered the phrase?

    Hi devnihil –

The keyword phrase is ‘how to sleep better’ but the plugin seems to be focussing on just the word ‘sleep’. I got a warning in the form of a red frowning face icon and acknowledgement that my keyword density was 10% over acceptable limit for post length.

I replaced the word ‘sleep’ throughout the post with synonyms where appropriate and that lowered keyword density to just below acceptable limit of 2.5%. Still, it was strange that the plugin focussed clearly on one word in the keyword phrase instead of the entire phrase.

Will my post still be optimized for the full keyword phrase ‘how to sleep better’? Anything else I should know about or you need to know?
    Thanks,

Can you confirm you are using Yoast SEO for WordPress 9.0.3 and WordPress 4.9.8?

Could you also provide us the URL of the post so we can check the content and test if we get the same results for the keyword density if we create a test page with the same focus keyphrase and content.

You can refer to this article for more information — https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/keyphrase-density-check/
