For some reason the number of shares and likes are being shown in weird characters – almost like Chinese.

I’ve tried deactivating/activating the page share buttons and redoing the Facebook like box widget, but nothing seems to be working.

I’ve had to remove the widget display from all the pages but the contact page just for you to see.

I left the share buttons on but the client is going to make me take that down too if I can’t get it fixed.

    Please advise.

    Thanks for your time.

  • Hi @zmokin

I’ve seen you’ve mentioned that the page share and likes are appearing almost like Chinese; however, I’ve checked the contact page you’ve sent and didn’t see any weird text or behavior on the share button or the like ones. Check these screenshots I’ve taken:

I’d suggest testing with another browser or device and checking whether the behavior changes.

Thanks for replying. I did check with different browsers and it doesn’t happen all the time but I can’t pin-point the problem.

Here are links to screenshots of what it looks like when it does happen:
For the Facebook like box on the sidebar of the Contact Us page:

For the share buttons at the bottom of posts:

    Hello there,

In your screenshots, I’m seeing Japanese text for sure.

What’s interesting is right now, for me, it’s showing the Facebook banner in Spanish:

This wouldn’t be a Jetpack issue, there is something inside your WordPress that is broadcasting that parts of your site (or at least Facebook-related features) are in different languages than English.

In looking at your plugins, I would make a cursory guess that these two may be culprits:

    – /widget-options/
    – /wonderm00ns-simple-facebook-open-graph-tags/

You can try disabling those two plugins and see if you can recreate the issue in a web browser you don’t normally use (to ensure a fresh connection after the change), or get back to us to test from our side.

If that doesn’t help, would you be able to try disabling all other plugins except for Jetpack to see if the issue continues? If everything looks normal while doing so, then you can switch on each other plugin one by one until you see the problem happen again.

If you still see the issue even with all other plugins disabled, could you also try switching out your theme for a more minimalistic one (such as Twenty Twenty Two) to make sure this isn’t some sort of theme conflict?

Please let us know the results of the above troubleshooting and we can go from there. Thanks!
