Weird character encoding after db restore

  • I (my host) recently did a restore of my database from backup. After the restore I have noticed what seems like weird encoding throughout the site. I have fixed post title, user profiles, etc by hand but before I get to the daunting task of fixing posts, comments, etc thru the db. I was wondering if anyone knows definitely how to quickly fix existing posts.

    my host tells me “We suspect the issue may be with Magic Quotes…” with the character a€ appearing in one location in the restore.

    I have considered modifying php.ini, wp_config.php & header.php as prescribed in this thread but have not because encoding seems correctly set to utf-8 in most places.
