• So I’m using weebly thru fatcow right now at https://www.vballworld.com. But I’m switching over to wordpress and was wondering: if I get a free wordpress name including WORDPRESS in the website address, can I save all my files on that wordpress website once it’s developed and move it to my https://www.vballworld.com account? I don’t know if you can save all the files on wordpress offline then transfer it to fatcow after installing WP on it. Please let me know! Thanks.

so to clarify, im using weebly for my CMS site right now but i hate it and want to switch over. But I’m gonna keep using the weebly site while I’m working on the WP version of the site on a different host name. Once the site is developed, can I save all those files and reupload or i guess transfer them onto the https://www.vballworld.com host name under fatcow?

if I get a free wordpress name including WORDPRESS in the website address

On a self-hosted site? No – although you can install WP in a wordpress sub-folder if you want that in your url.

can I save all my files on that wordpress website

Your WP site’s content is stored in your database – not in files. I would recommend that you focus on creating all of your content online – on the vballworld.com site once WordPress is installed.

Basically I was asking if I could create a wordpress account via wordpress and not via Fatcow. Then I want to transfer the wordpress website and link it with my Fatcow account so I can eventually have the WP website on https://www.vballworld.com. Is that ok?

You either install WordPress on your own site/domain (self-hosting) or you could opt for a free, non-transferable, wordpress.com site instead. There’s no other kind of account that you can have to create a site and move it some place else afterwards.

Ok. Thanks. But obviously it’ll take a couple days for me to create the WP website on my self-hosting so how can I keep the Weebly website up while I have WP going on? Should I install it somewhere like: https://www.vballworld.com/wordpress ? will I eventually be able to move that to my regular name at: https://www.vballworld.com ?

Install WP in a sub-folder on your domain. Then, when you are ready to launch the new site, see Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory.
