• Hi All,
I am a complete newbie so my apologies if this question is not very clear.

I have just had a website done for me using WordPress. When i type in its full URL into firefox the website shows. When i type it into Google it says “Your search – https://www.pamperingyou.co.uk – did not match any documents.”

If i type into Google “PamperingYou.co.uk” (without www.)it lists the website but i have noticed that at the bottom of the link the www. is also missing (pamperingyou.co.uk/?page_id=18 – 7k – Cached – Similar pages – Note this)

By the way…I am not interested in ranking with Google as this website will only be seen when somebody reads my marketing material and then types in the website in full

I am totally lost on all things technical so if you could keep any replies really simple i would really appreciate it.

Thanks to ALL in advnace of any replies.
    Regards,
    Rob Bishop

  • Your website can be visited from either
    www.pamperingyou.co.uk/
    or
    https://pamperingyou.co.uk/

Because your site does not automatically redirect users from https://pamperingyou.co.uk/ to www.pamperingyou.co.uk/, Google has indexed the page without the www prefix.

In simpler words, Google sees two versions of your site and decided to use the one without www.

You can fix this yourself, but I am not sure that I can put it in words that you can easily understand/follow.

Patience. If the website was done recently (as you imply), then I’m impressed that it’s there at all at this point. It can take Google a long time sometimes to list a new site, especially if there aren’t many links elsewhere on the internet pointing to your site.

    Edit:

As for the previous suggestion, you can go to “google webmaster tools” and set a preference for www or no www there. Google it and you’ll find it.

    Thanks for your replies.
Adam i think you have read my post slightly wrong. When anybody types in the full url into Google it shows no website, which means people cannot see it.
    In firefox browser it shows.
If i type the website without the www. it lists it in google results, but that is not much use if people type in https://www.PamperingYou.co.uk as in my marketing material. I dont have this problem in Firefox, just Google.

I tried going to “webmaster tools” but it wants me to verify and what it tells me is above my knowledge to do.

Sorry if my explaination isnt very good.
    Rob

Do you know how to upload files to your website?

Google Webmaster Tools asks you to verify that you are the owner of that site by looking for a file that you have to place on your site.

It should give you a file that looks similar to:
    google9h3g7324g76s6346.html

Open notepad, click “file”, “save as”, change the “save as type” to “all files”, enter the name of the file it gave you (google33be2f456dd9c8be.html) and upload it to your server using an ftp client.

I assume that HostGator uses your account username and password for ftp, so enter those details. Drag the google33be2f456dd9c8be.html file into the public_html folder and Google should successfully verify your site.

Sorry if this seems a bit overwhelming for you. It is not easy to explain this to someone who does not know the terminology I am using.
