    Hi

I seem to be having an issue with some clients on a particular server that have Wordfence installed.

The websites are not displaying. The common demoninator seems to be that they have Wordfence installed. Clients that have no Wordfence on their websites on the same server are NOT having the issue.

    The connection has timed out

An error occurred during a connection

    • The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
    • If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
    • If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the web.

WHAT could be causing this issue please ?

The hosting are getting frustrated and so am I and my clients …

I need to pinpoint the issue. Could you offer some advice on why Wordfence would be causing this type of issue and HOW to rectify this ?

    Thanks

    Kristin

    Thanks for your patience, Kristin.

Time-outs like these are typically due to configuration or server issues. It could be a resource issue (potentially due to excessive hits), or in some cases conflicts amongst plugins causing time-outs, however, it is less likely that a single plugin is causing the intermittent connection issue here. The best option is to check the raw access logs, MySQL logs, and error logs at the time of a time-out. If all of the sites this is occurring on are on the same server, that would be something else to consider. If Wordfence were causing an issue due to something set up in our plugin, you would typically see a specific block, or in the event of the firewall optimization causing an issue, you’d see a specific error on the site and it wouldn’t be intermittent.

If a CDN is in use, you could consider checking for errors there to pinpoint the issue, or consider disabling it on one site to see if the issues stop there. If the time-out occurs on some or all of the affected sites at the same time (rather than intermittently one at a time), that may help to pinpoint a resource or server issue.

Can you confirm how frequently this has been occurring or if anything has stood out since opening the case here?

    Thanks,
    Scott
