• I’m starting a website project, but I’m not sure if WP is cabable for it so I need your help.

What would be the best way to build a website with multiple instances of same plugins (gallery and event calendar)? The website is divided into three main sections and all these three sections should have their own event calendar and gallery. As I have read, multiple instances of plugins won’t work out of the box.

Multisite could be the answer, but to keep things hard, the site should have shared navigation menu AND a shared forum for all three main sections.

Is this possible to achieve in WP or do I have switch back to Joomla?

  • Plugins often offer functionality that allows you to create multiple instances of what it is designed to do. I.e. and contact form plugin allows you to create multiple contact forms and them call them as required, usually by an ID. Because of this I see no reason why a calander plugin would not be able to do the same.

If one is not currently available then the beauty of WP is that it is all open source and you can write your own, and then (if you wish) share it with others. There are silly amounts of tutorials and developer tools to get you going.

And from your brief description, multisite is NOT the way to go, but I see no reason why WP cannot do what you want.

    Thanks.

    Thank you for your reply.

I have the basic idea what you can achieve with WP, but because time is the essence, I don’t see the beauty of writing or modifying (besides small changes) any plugins at the moment. I guess I should have asked, what is the fastest way to achieve what I want.

If there isn’t any certainty that (all) plugins work as multiple instances, I have to choose another way to build up this site.

Trouble is, I very much doubt if any other solution will provide *exactly* what you are looking for either, so you are likely going to have to choose what you feel more comfortable with. All I can say about WP is that they help forums are always well populated and the documentation is very good. Not sure if Joomla or the like offer as much support once you start going…
