• All of the sudden, my site is totally messed up. The homepage should be a listing of all my most recent posts with an accompanying image for each. But using Chrome on my desktop and on my phone, I see only two archival posts on the homepage with some kind of scratchy coloration to the accompanying images. WP Site Health Status said that I had the wrong version of msQL installed, so I asked my website host, Ionos, to back up the site and update it to mySQL to 7.4. The site is still not working properly, and I do not have the knowledge to understand what is wrong. I only use wordpress to edit the site. Can someone please help me figure out what is happening? Thank you!

I don’t think that’s going to be a PHP or MySQL issue, feels more like a plugin/theme issue.

try this: go back to the twentytwenty theme (the default wp theme) and see if things output correctly. if they do then it’s a problem with your chosen theme, if they still don’t then it’s likely a plugin problem so reactivate your chosen theme then…

deactivate all plugins and then reload the site. if it’s showing the content you want to display then you know it’s a plugin issue. next, reactive the plugins one at a time and check the front of the site after each one. if your content displays fine until you activate plugin x then you’ve found the issue.

Thanks, Jack. I actually woke up this morning wondering if it was a plugin issue. When I was trying to troubleshoot different things yesterday, I changed mobile settings with AMP and everything showed up on the site–but not when I changed them back.

I changed the theme to TwentyTwenty, and all of my content is back up–so then it must be a problem with the theme. Is it possible that it’s a plugin that is incompatible with my theme that is causing the problem? Would it be appropriate at this point to go back to my chosen theme, Oblique, deactivate all the plugins, and see what works/doesn’t?

it’s definitely worth trying the second plan. it sounds to me like there’s an issue between various plugins and the theme using different versions of JQuery.

reactivate oblique and deactivate/reactivate the plugins and see which one makes it fall over.

can you list which plugins you’re using on the site?
