Hello, I am stuck in maintenance mode.

Everytime I try to access the login page or the administration, I get redirected to the welcome page. Therefore I can’t deactivate the plugin.

Is there a way to deactivate the plugin manually either in database or by modifying an FTP file? I have access the the database + the FTP.

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hi @powsey,

We’re sorry to hear about the issues encountered!

This is not the desired behaviour of the plugin if you have the administrator role for the site and unfortunately, I can’t replicate it on my test instance. Was the Exclude field from Lightstart -> General modified in any way? The terms that are added there by default make sure that the dashboard can always be accessed by the administrator, without him being redirected to the maintenance page. However, making changes to that field may result in the behaviour described. To disable the plugin, you could reach out to your hosting provider, as they should be able to help in that matter.

    Have a nice day ahead!

Hello, you did not answer my very specific question: where in database or server files is the option to activate/deactivate the maintenance mode inside the plugin? It must be saved somewhere. Please tell me where.

I do not understand why the hosting provider would have anything to do with this. They’re here to provide hosting, which they do, not to assist with plugin misusage within WordPress.

    thank you for your help.

    Same here.
I had to remove it via ftp.

Finally a useful answer! Thank you so much @i_robert, I’d put you a thumbs up if I could!

I have another plugin that hides the classic wp-login.php page and was not added to the lightstart default authorized pages. This resulted in me not being able to log in.

I’ve been a little less drastic than you but inspired from it. Here are my steps:
    – log in the FTP server
    – Go to the Lightstart directory
    >> wp-content/plugins/wp-maintenance-mode
    – Change the lightstart directory
    >> wp-content/plugins/wp-maintenance-mode2
    – Since the directory name has been changed, the plugin can’t load now so the website is off the maintenance mode.
    – log in to the website and go to the admin panel
    – Rename the directory back to the normal name
    >> wp-content/plugins/wp-maintenance-mode
    – Reload admin and go to the lightstart settings to change what you need to change (for me adding the extra path to authroize).

    Then all set and fixed.

    Hi @powsey,

Thank you for the update and for sharing the solution you found with the community. This can be a major help for other users of the plugin with a similar setup.

    Best regards,

I completely removed it because it is breaking my website.
I tried to reinstall it a few times but it is not working.
