    Hello everyone,

    My website: https://www.1vibe.net

To make things clear, i am using 2.3.3 because when i was installing the latest version of wordpress on my server i experienced the same problem i am having now. The site has been fine for about 3 weeks or so. Today out of no where, my website slowed down, everything from admin panel, to the site itself. Here is what i have done so far to resolve or find out the problem:

    1. Checked the status of my server and it is doing fine, ftp loads fine, other sites on the server load fine, so it leads me to believe it is a WORDPRESS error.

    2. The last thing i did was make my latest post on the blog. Now the weird part was when i clicked “publish” the post the next window usually is just the post page reloading but what i got was a white simple wordpress window (didnt seem part of the admin panel) asking me if i wanted to make the post or not giving me two buttons “yes” and “no” i clicked yes. This is the last action done before the slowdown was noticed.

    3. I know that none of my plugins are causing the problem because i have tried to deactivate them and no fix. I did notice something that was not there before when i go to plugins > XML-Sitemap – Here there is a msg at the top saying “Your sitemap is being refreshed at the moment. Depending on your blog size this might take some time!” im not sure if this could be the problem or not?

    4. Also another thing that may not be related but i think is worth mentioning is that today i received a few spam comments which i quickly removed.

So other then the above info, from the knowledge that i have, there is nothing that i can say i know of that is causing the problem. Also my server guys tried to help me when i was first doing the installation with the latest version of wordpress and they also could not figure out the reason for the slow down.

    I’ve had the same problem.
My provider notified me my CPU utilization was out of this world, started around Nov 10. The thing was that it wasn’t only my blog that caused the problem, also my forum.

The only thing that helped was blocking a whole bunch of known spammers in my htaccess. As soon as I did that and kept it up to date my CPU utilization went down.

Right now I wrote a small Python script to keep my htaccess file up to date.

You can read more about this at my blog: https://blog.avirtualhome.com

hey peter so are you saying that my problem has to do with spam?

    (@petervanderdoes)

It could be. Even if you have a Spam Blocker, Akismet, Wp_SpamFree
If suddenly there’s a huge amount of access to your site, your site slows down.

but the thing is i dont see any spam messages appearing in my comments.. i dont even have any comments, just the 5 spam comments i deleted today. Unless there is other hidden amount of access to my site that i cannot see?

Same here, I didn’t see any increase in spam or caught spam. I guess the Spammers tried something that didn’t work anymore.

If you have a Linux machine I could send you a small script that will create a list of known spammers that accessed your site.

So Peter helped me out and we tried everything from checkiny mysql files, to checking htaccess for spammers and nothing was found.

It appears that my website takes about 20 – 30 seconds to load, but when it does everything quickly appears so there seems to be a delay. Again everything else but wordpress loads fast like my forum https://www.1vibe.net/forum has no delay in loading. Also the cpu does not seem to be overloaded and im only getting about 500 hits daily at the moment.

Please someone help me out im stuck and i really need to keep my site updated.

Hey Skrekkugle, i had the same problem when i tried to install the latest version of wordpress and right of the bat with a clean install i had this 20 – 30 second load slowdown problem. I think if we find more people that have this issue maybe someone from the WordPress team can help us. I mean this seems to be a major issue as im doing nothing wrong here, and my server is showing no signs of anything from that end.

I think im gonna try to find an older version of WP and see if it’s any different. Editing this post with results.

I am using an older version. If you read the whole post, at the beginnig i stated that i am using 2.3.3 because when i installed that version the loading was fine. I used it for 3 weeks and now the same problem.

Hmm thats weird. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if someone comes up with a solution.

Tried installing 2.5.1. No difference.. Sent an email to my webhost just in case.
