I had an .htaccess file problem which I fixed but now I have another problem. I had to make a new file because I clicked on a program to open it but it was the wrong program.

Homepage comes in but not the other webpages, when I click “Visit Site”. I get an error message: “The webpage cannot be found”, “HTTP 404”.

I did save the old .htaccess file with the code (not modified.) Should I put that code into the new .htaccess file? Will this give the rest of the webpages back?

My website is not online yet. It’s on my computers C: Drive.

    Appreciate anyone’s input.

Try re-saving your permalink structure at Settings/Permalinks in your admin panel. If WordPress cannot automatically edit the .htaccess file, it will provide manual instructions after saving.

I tired and the rest of my pages don’t come back.

Ok, make sure that you have mod_rewrite enabled on the server.
