• Hello,

I wanted to transfer a WordPress installation from one FTP-Server to another like I already did several times. The MySQL database stays at the same server.

    Error:
Website did not load anymore : Error establishing a database connection

    What I did beforehand:
    – Disable all plugins
    – Change wp-config.php to external MySQL server address
    – Change in database the URL
    – Transfer the files from one FTP to another FTP
    – activate MySQL database for external use

Then the error shows up, following things I already tried:
    – database repair via /wp-admin/maint/repair
    – upload new WordPress installation (maybe some file got destroyed while the transfer)
    – clean .htaccess from everything except wp stuff
    – disable plugins via FTP (rename file) and MySQL
    – disable theme via FTP (rename file)

Any other ideas? The URL is click

  • Check DB files to make sure the password or site URL didn’t get messed up.

Also, did you already move the database to the new site? If you did check password/usrname for changes

Thanks for your answer. Site URL in the database is fine. Password should be too, because I changed it in the backend of my hoster. Where exactly can I check it in SQLMyAdmin area?

No the database stay at the old server and only the FTP files and URL are on another server. Username and password are the same. I only had to change from localhost to external IP.
