Website not loading or loading slow – Debug help?

  • Hello, recently our website has come to a crawl during loading. It will load fine once you have cached the website however if you view it on a cleared cache it either doesn’t load or takes forever to do so.

    I have tried clearing the cache on wordpress and the hosting company added something to the server to make wordpress run after but that has not helped.

    Could anyone suggest or help debug the issue?

    Did you try deactivating all plugins and switching to the default Twenty Eleven WordPress theme to try to narrow down the issue?

    I’ve tried on some plugins but if I deactivate them, it seems to not come back on the site once activated (or store the information) so I am hesitant to do so. Would switching themes cause me to lose info?

    Switching themes won’t cause you to lose any information. I’d recommend it. Here’s what I’d recommend:

    – Deactivate all of your plugins
    – Switch themes to the default Twenty Eleven WordPress theme
    – Put your site in debug mode using wp-config.php
    – Troubleshoot the errors one at a time

    I cleared my cache and visited your site. Sometimes it is terribly slow and sometimes it’s “ok”.

    I had a site that ran like this once, and it was a problem with the hosting configuration.

    Also, try doing some of these things instructed on this site. Mainly GZipping and Compressing Components, and leverage browser caching.

    Also, check your SQL database in case there’s any large files in there…perhaps something is in there that’s so large that’s clunking up the Database.

    I haven’t tried this yet, but I plan to next week…installing a DB Manager plugin…

    Back everything up first though.
