• I updated a couple of things yesterday and now the website is taking ages to load. And when it does no images show as I had to restore to today’s backup but seems to have not worked correctly. But the main issue to start with is why is it suddenly taking so long to load (e.g. A couple minutes) Nothing has changed within the site

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello, billymann23, & welcome.

Firstly, I notice your Google Analytics plugin isn’t loading correctly, though I have to say I doubt that’s the entire problem.

1 thing we tend to do in this situation is to ask folks to switch to a default theme & deactivate plugins–temporarily, of course–to see if the problem persists.

If not, then try reactivating the theme first. If that still doesn’t break things, then try reactivating plugins 1 by 1, clearing your browser cache & trying the website after each activation, until you find the plugin that broke stuff.

The plugins folder can be deactivated by appending characters to the end of the foldername, ie, plugins1.

Because the login screen for your dashboard comes up far quicker than does your homepage, I seriously suspect that the problem lies in either the theme, a plugin(s), or both.

@abletec Thanks for your suggestions, before I do anything. If i disable theme and re-enable will it be as I left it? e.g formatting, locations etc

@abletec Went through everything and found out to be the last plugin I reactivated “Gallery Custom Links”. The latest review also says it gave him an error. All seems to load as per usual now, albeit without photos etc. But that’s my fault anyway

Well, billymann23, truthfully, you’ve got a *shipload* of images loading there, some of which seem to be pretty large. You might do well to install Jetpack on your site & use their cdn to help those images load faster. They also have a nice gallery that you might perhaps like. & their cdn does some image optimization. From another perspective, though, since you’re obviously primarily local to the UK, perhaps a cdn wouldn’t be all that worthwhile for you. I guess you could try it & see if it helps.

NextGen gallery is another plugin that has *tons* of installations & is considered by some almost to be the gold standard when it comes to gallery plugins. I myself am not sure I’d go quite that far, but a lot of folks seem to like it.

You might also wish to check your hosting metrics, ie, your CPU load, memory use, number of files, etc, to make sure you’re not hitting your hosting provider’s limits, as doing so can throttle a site pretty severely.

Anyway, glad we sort of got you back on track. Let us know if you need more help.
