    Hello all,

I recently paid someone on Fiverr.com to do some work to my website but instead they have messed up the website!
I don’t have a backup and the guy who messed it up didn’t take a backup before he started the work and now the slide show, the top menu and top header are missing.
I’m really upset what has happened because it took me a long time to build this website, does anyone know how I can fix it?

    My website is https://www.tgfsecurity.co.uk

    Thanks in advance

  • If you’re lucky, you can ask your hosting provider to restore your website if they have some recent automated backup. Other than that good luck in restoring your website. You’re going to need it.

I asked my hosting provided (Hostwinds) but they said they don’t take backups of individual websites ??

Is your site based on a theme? It could be that the developer deleted the line of php that load template parts such as your menu, header, and slideshow. If those lines were removed, they would be easy to replace. You could even swap out the php file that you have now with the one from your original theme, then compare them using a site like diffchecker.com and work backwards to figure out the PHP errors.

Yes i’m using a theme, do you know what files I need to change? Thanks James

That’s the problem, none of us here can’t even guess what that person messed up. You could try switching to TwentySixteen theme, then uninstalling the theme you’re using now and then reinstalling it and activating it again. It just might put the things back to normal.

I’m going to try that now. Thanks

Looks like you’ve made it? ??

Yes it has worked a treat but I’m still annoyed because I made a lot of changes to the theme before but I will tweak it to get it as close as possible and then will have to live with it lol and learn to always take backups before I hand my website to others in the future. Thanks for your help Sinip ??

You’re welcome. Good to see you got it under control.:-)
Yes, always make a backup you can access even if the website is down. When you fix the theme, you need to improve a few minor things regarding website loading and you’ll be good to go – https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.tgfsecurity.co.uk/WU7qe9d0
BTW, could you make this topic as “resolved”?

Yes I have noticed my website is running really slow, do you have any idea how to fix any of the things that on GTmetrix? Thanks

Well yes I do, you can fix some of them from .htaccess, some using a couple of plugins, images you can optimise manually (pick up those offered by GTmetrix and replace original ones) or use some plugin.

Thanks Sinip, I’m going to work on this next ??
