    Hi All

I really don’t know what’s occuring or how to trouble-shoot it so I hope some of you can point me in the direction.

    My wp-login, https://www.digitaldoit.com/wp-login is redirecting to https://www.digitaldoit.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fdigitaldoit.com%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

When I checked the site a couple of weeks ago with Xenu, it displayed every link – internel and external on the site including images links, anchor links etc. and found they were working as they should but today when I check it, I only see two links.

I’ve checked with my host site but they tell me its a wp issue, I just don’t know how to trouble shoot it.

I’ve reinstalled WP 3.4.2, reactivated the Twenty Ten theme and deactivated all the plugins but nothing changed.

I suspect it may have something to do with either NextGen Gallery (I activated permalinks) or WP eCommerce which I briefly activated to see how it worked but deactivated again almost instantly. I’ve done nothing else on the site that could have brought about this change – not knowingly anyway ??

I’ve uploaded both the Xenu report and a screen shot of the query to https://www.dropbox.com/sh/v4hfulabk6kpzgd/J8leNlcn9q for viewing.

All urls on the website are working but I’ve no idea what is causing the redirect and if there could be a knock-on effect with google crawling the site. I assume that by it’s very nature it’s slowing the loadtime. Plus there’s the added issue of not being able to check my links with Xenu when it’s not getting past the index page.

    Many thanks in anticipation

  • That redirect takes to login page can you login or are having problem logging in.

    Hi govpatel

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I can successfully login after the redirect.

The website is functioning – just redirecting. I want to eliminate redirects for SEO purposes but I don’t know where to look.

I’ve since observed, it has something to do with the use of www. before the remainder of the url. However, I just don’t understand how or what changed or how I can fix it.

The redirect is part of the WordPress login flow. It redirects the user to the designated URL after the user has login.

If it is for SEO, WordPress has already inserted a meta tag for robots disallowing the indexing for the login page.

    <meta name='robots' content='noindex,nofollow' />

You do not have to worry much since millions of site are powered by WordPress.

Thank you for your help and sorry for my lack of knowledge on this one.

This redirect occurs as the login screens is resolving, not after I login. I do not understand, I maintain other WP sites, none of which redirect at login. The login screen is presented at https://www.websitename.xxx/wp-admin or https://www.websitename.xxx/wp-admin.php depending on which way they’ve been setup.

This website did the same until recently, what is different now? Why is there a redirect in the url for this site only?

Where can I find the redirect instructions?

This redirect occurs as the login screens is resolving, not after I login.

And that is still the expected behaviour for https://www.digitaldoit.com/wp-login Try using https://www.digitaldoit.com/wp-login.php instead.

I believe that is fine.. since that is the backend and wouldnt affect SEO in any way… as much as we would also not want our login page to be indexed by google for security purposes.

The normal behaviour would be if you visit https://www.domain.com/wp-admin, it will redirect to https://www.domain.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=xxxx. This is because to enter into the admin area, you would need to login first.

If you visit https://www.domain.com/wp-login.php, there’s no redirection. It will redirect after login.

I’ve checked your site and it worked normally as the above scenario.

Would you be able to point what are the different steps in your process?

    Hi All

Thank you all so much for your patience with my lack of knowledge.

Ok so that’s it. I really thought I’d done something stupid that could create a bigger problem for me.

Until now I’ve been logging in by choosing the url from the ‘most recent’ in the drop-down list in Firefox address bar. This is the one that redirected.

Just now, I manually typed in https://www.digitaldoit.com/wp-admin and https://www.digitaldoit.com/wp-admin.php and in each instance it initally returned a ‘Not Found’.

I repeated both URLs manually and choose the link from the drop-down list and it eventually returned the login page for the manual entry https://www.digitaldoit.com/wp-login.php

So I guess I’ve tried to create a storm in a teacup – thank you all.

    Many thanks
