Website image wont appear as a thumbnail on facebook

I am having an issue with getting any images at all to show up as a thumbnail on facebook. When I post the domain address it pulls a garbled message about my theme.. When I enter the domain and /any of my pages it pulls the short link but still no images. Can someone help me? I am code illiterate.
