website down due to backwpup

Hi,

My website was not accessible to anyone today.
I found out from my hosting provider site5.con
that when accessing it, the page had a redirect loop.

They checked and came back saying “We’ve checked this and came to the conclusion that the error you are currently facing is due to a plug in called ‘backwpup’ You may want to try to deactivate this plug in.”

Disabling plugin via ftp “backwpup” finally helped.

Was there an update today?
Why did this happen?
Please let me know on how I can go about using this plugin again.
