Website down after publishing post from ipad app

  • Hi, I’ve got an odd problem. When I publish a blog post from the WP iOS app, either from my ipad or my iphone, the site goes down for about an hour.

    I can access the server by FTP but the browser tells me the server is not responding and won’t show either my site or any of the other sites using the same hosting account, even though they have different domains, different WP installations, etc.

    When the site is down the WP app can’t make contact with the server either. Another weird thing is that the title, text and photo of the published post show up on my facebook account, so it must have uploaded OK.

    This doesn’t happen every single time. Sometimes a post will go through with no problems.
    It seems to happen more often when the post contains an image. And if I save a draft it’s fine. It’s only when I publish.

    I have no problems posting from my computer, just the iOS devices. I’m running iOS 8.

    Any idea why this is happening?

    If you can’t even access the site via FTP, that means the server is down, and you should contact your hosting provider ASAP.

    I can access through FTP. It’s only the front end that doesn’t show up.

    Oh, sorry, I misread that.

    Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
