Website Crashed due to Update

Are you able to provide any further information? I’m not sure what would have caused this in the most recent update. Can you tell me what version of PHP your site is running? I primarily tested on PHP 8 for this release, and could have inadvertently missed something on an older version of PHP.

Our website was also not accessible after the update. It still worked for some users (probably loaded from the cache). I sometimes got a white page, sometimes the wordpress message “Problems with your website”. We have a multisite running on PHP 7.4. Because of other dependencies, we cannot update to 8.x.

I did also test on PHP 7.4, and on multisite; I was thinking more of PHP versions older than that. Do you have any more information about the errors? Usually, WordPress will send an email that includes the specific error message. You can also install a plug-in like Query Monitor by John Blackbourne that will help identify the source of errors.

The website’s php version is 7.4.33

The website is also a multi-site network.

I’ve managed to reproduce an error with multisite/PHP 7.4, so I’m exploring that.

It’s really strange. I’ve got some clues, but I don’t know what’s going on yet. It seems to have to do with the function that fetches the default options for the plug-in, but since all that function does is return an pre-defined array, I can’t see why.

Got it. There was one part of the default settings that was loading a bunch of globals unnecessarily, as part of an earlier calling function; that appeared to cause a major performance breakdown on multisite. Will get an update out this afternoon.
